On 29 June 2023, Tech and Inclusion Advocates launched Tech Ireland advocates in The Portershed in Galway. It was a night full of fun, inspiring conversation and lots of Guinness! We had special guests like His Worship, The Mayor of Galway.

The Mayor of Galway giving the opening address at the tech and inclusion launch in 2023.

We had a fire side chat with Russ Shaw, the founder of Global Tech Advocates who had a spirited conversation about his journey creating GTA and it’s importance of platforming minority groups in the tech space.

Our theme ‘Tech For Good’ was championed by an inspiring panel who shared their very diverse perspectives on how technology can be a force for good in media and education, community and with entrepreneurs and start-ups.

Our panelists, Helen Ogbu, Godstime Osarobo, Andrew O’Baoill and Leyla Karaha. Moderated by Alma Tarfa.

Andrew O'Baoill, a lecturer in the School of English and Creative Arts at the University of Galway. His work focuses on the political economy of the mass media, with a particular interest in the interplay of technological change, regulation and not-for-profit media. Helen Ogbu, The chairperson for Galway Refugee Support Group who actively participates in various organisations including integrating ireland, the Galway Intercultural Forum. Godstime Osarobo, a software engineer, musician and one of the Co-Founders of The Purpose Movement a youth organisation dedicated to helping young people discover their purpose and live lives filled with meaning and impact. and Leyla Karaha, a founder of KPesa, a social impact lending crowdfunding platform for female entrepreneurs.

We wrapped up the evening with an interactive to understand what areas we felt could benefit with using tech, what major problems need to be addressed and how we would solve problems using people and technology.

Here are some other photos to get you excited for our platform! We hope to see you at our next event.
